Every year from May 6 to May 12, we come together to celebrate National Nurses Week — a time to honor the extraordinary individuals whose care, courage, and commitment form the heart of the healthcare system. In 2025, as in every year, this week serves as a powerful reminder of the vital role nurses play across every stage of the patient experience.
At Central Clinical Labs (CCL), we believe that while nurses may often be too busy to seek recognition, their impact is impossible to overlook. Nurses Week gives us a chance to shine a spotlight on their dedication, resilience, and the difference they make every day.
Nurses Week traces its roots back to 1954, marking the 100th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s mission to care for wounded soldiers during the Crimean War. In 1993, the American Nurses Association (ANA) officially designated May 6–12 as National Nurses Week — ending on Nightingale’s birthday — to formally recognize the contributions of nurses in modern healthcare.
Nurses are everywhere: in hospitals and clinics, schools and care homes, public health departments and disaster zones. They are the first to respond in a crisis and the last to leave their bedside. Their work spans preventative care, acute treatment, health education, advocacy, and often emotional support. Through all of this, they provide a steady presence in moments of uncertainty.
Nurses are consistently ranked among the most trusted professionals, and for good reason. Their blend of technical knowledge, critical thinking, and human compassion makes them indispensable in both routine and high-stakes healthcare situations.
The COVID-19 pandemic placed nurses at the front lines of global crisis care, reminding the world of their endurance and sacrifice. But their importance stretches far beyond emergencies — they are the bridge between science and the human experience of healing.
At Central Clinical Labs, we work closely with nursing teams across the country, especially in contexts where lab results guide treatment decisions. Nurses are the ones who interpret, communicate, and act on those results in real time. Whether administering tests, following up with patients, or advocating for better care pathways, nurses are integral to how healthcare functions.
This week, we honor their deep clinical knowledge, calm under pressure, and unmatched ability to connect with people. They are not just caregivers — they are educators, listeners, and leaders in patient-centered care.
As we observe Nurses Week, it's essential to acknowledge that our appreciation for nurses should last beyond this single week. Their ongoing contributions to our health deserve continuous recognition. Whether you’re a patient, a colleague, or someone whose life has been influenced by a nurse, please take a moment to honor their work not only in May Week but in every aspect of life.
